The Port of Athens is the central port of the Island of Thira and is the main maritime pillar that connects the Island with the rest of the country and is characterized as a commercial and passenger port.

The Port of Athens is the main gateway to the island for vehicles and visitors arriving by sea. It is connected to Piraeus daily and throughout the year, as well as to the other islands of the Cyclades. The itineraries and responses multiply in the summer times.

Athens is approached by conventional E/G-O/G ships and high-speed ferries, which run regular routes from/to Piraeus, Rafina, Cyclades, Crete and Dodecanese, as well as intra-Cycladic routes. Therefore, it is of particular importance for the economy and the development of the tourist product of Thira.

The port of Athens was constructed in the period 2006-2008 according to the definitive study "Port works of Athens N. Thiras", August 2003. The project concerned the completion and extension of the existing quays, in order to create the required berths for E/G- O/C ships and sufficient land zone to serve the needs of the port.

In the area of Limenas there are the following building infrastructures:
-Ground floor building housing the Lembouchon club
-Ground floor building that houses the Port Authority of Thira
-Ground floor building - passenger waiting area with WC
- Outdoor covered passenger waiting area

The lengths of the individual sections of the beach piers are as follows:
- Platform AB: 11.40m
- Landing BG: 46.50m
-Kripidoma GD ("Poseidon" position): 101.30m
- Parking lot DE: 31.00m
- Parking lot EZ (location "Kamares"): 116.40m
-ZI berth: 4.40m

Behind the wharves, the land zone of the port is formed. There is a passenger waiting room, restaurants and shops, while an outdoor parking area has also been set up.

The draft of conventional E/G-O/G ships approaching Athens – a technical element important for the long-term behavior of the quays – reaches 6.7m.

In addition to the above, high-speed ships also approach the port, which have a draft smaller than that of conventional ships, indicatively with a draft of 3.5m.
